Micro-Tese for patients with no sperm

A/Prof Katz is the first and only urologist in Australia to publish his personal data on micro-TESE in an international peer-reviewed journal. Click here to see the journal article.

A/Prof Katz is the first urologist in Victoria to have undertaken a sub-speciality fellowship in male infertility and microsurgery at the prestigious Cornell Center for Male Reproductive Medicine and Microsurgery in New York, USA.

A/Prof Katz worked with some of the world leaders and pioneers in male infertility and microsurgery – Marc Goldstein and Peter Schlegel

A/Prof Katz does the most number of microsurgical testicular sperm explorations (Micro-TESE) out of any urologist in Victoria. A/Prof Katz is the only urologist to present his data and is currently writing a mansuscipt of his experience with Micro-TESE to be published in a major scientific journal.

A micro-TESE has been shown in numerous studies to have the best chance of finding sperm in patients who are azoospermic (no sperm on semen analysis). The reason for this is because for patients who have no sperm in their ejaculate, occasionally some of these men may STILL HAVE SPERM being made in the testicle but is just not enough to get out into the semen. In some cases, it may just be a handful of sperm being made and the best way to find them is by a microsurgical approach.

Performing a testicular biopsy WITHOUT microsurgery is “hit and miss” and has been shown in numerous studies to have a lower chance of finding sperm and a higher complication rate.

A/Prof Katz was invited to present to a National Leadership Forum for specialist doctors about the importance of micro-TESE in patients who have Klinefelter syndrome.
